MAKNA SIMBOLIK MANTRA UJUB-UJUB DAN UBORAMPE DALAM TRADISI METRI: KAJIAN SEMIOTIKA PEIRCE

The ujub-ujub mantra and uborampe, which are important components in the metri tradition, are rich in symbolic meaning. This research uses Peirce's semiotic approach to analyze the relationship between representamen, object, and interpretant in the metri tradition. It is a descriptive qualitative study, with data collected through in-depth interviews with community leaders. The results of this analysis show that the elements in the metri ritual not only function as verbal or material symbols, but also reflect the culture of Javanese society. The ujub-ujub mantras functions as a sacred communication tool that connects humans with spiritual entities to invoke protection and safety. Uborampe such as mule metri, cambah, pelas, cabuk katul, jongkong iwel-iwel, buceng kuwat and bubur sengkolo have symbolic meanings that reflect the value of harmony, blessings and protection from harm. This research confirms the importance of revitalizing the metri tradition to remain relevant in the midst of modernization, one of which is by involving the younger generation through adaptations that maintain spiritual and cultural essence. This participatory approach is an important strategy to ensure local traditions remain sustainable and become part of cultural identity.
