SENYAPAN DAN SELIP LIDAH DEBAT PILKADA JAWA BARAT 2024: KAJIAN PSIKOLINGUISTIK PERSEPSI

Abstract

Communication phenomena in political debates often reflect complex psychological and linguistic dynamics. One form of disruption in oral communication is the emergence of pauses and slips of the tongue, which can affect public perception of the competence and credibility of political figures. This study aims to identify the forms of silence and slips of the tongue that appear in the public debate of the 2024 West Java regional head candidates, as well as to analyze public perceptions of these linguistic disturbances. The approach used is perceptual psycholinguistics, with qualitative methods and quantitative data support in the form of debate broadcast analysis and perception surveys of a number of respondents. The results of the study show that the most dominant type of silence is filled silence, such as "e ..." and "em ...", which often appears when candidates experience cognitive pressure in formulating arguments. Meanwhile, the slips of the tongue found include anticipation, phoneme exchange, and lexical contamination. Public perception of these two phenomena varies; some consider it normal in a stressful debate situation, while others interpret it as a sign of unpreparedness or lack of mastery of the material. This study shows that silence and slips of the tongue not only reflect mental processes in speech production, but also play a role in the formation of political image. This finding is important to consider in political communication strategies and public speaking training for candidates.
